Ukraine’s novel surface drones obliterate third of Russia’s Black Sea fleet – expert

Thanks to the effective performance of naval drones, Ukraine destroyed at least a third of Russia’s Black Sea fleet.

This was stated by DeepState co-founder Roman Pohoriliy, who spoke at the second International Black Sea Security Forum held in Odesa, Ukrinform reports.

"A third of the Russian Federation's Black Sea Fleet is currently at the bottom of the Black Sea thanks to surface drones.

Thanks to them, we were able to unblock navigation routes in order to transport grain.

As a result, the enemy is now afraid to deploy ships in the Black Sea," emphasized DeepState co-founder Roman Pohoriliy.

As Ukrinform reported earlier, a three-day forum dedicated to addressing the most pressing security, economic, and political challenges in the Black Sea region kicked off in Odesa on May 30.

The Black Sea Security Forum is an annual international security forum initiated by Ukrainian MP Oleksiy Honcharenko.

[Michigan] Ex-House Speaker Chatfield, wife to face trial in Michigan Capitol corruption case

Lansing — Republican former House Speaker Lee Chatfield and his wife will face trial on felony charges related to the alleged misuse of non-profit money.

Chatfield's case, which includes 13 counts, was bound over for trial in circuit court Friday by Ingham County District Judge Molly Hennessey Greenwalt. The case against his wife, Stephanie, was bound over on two felony charges.

Greenwalt found there was probable cause to believe Chatfield committed the crimes charged, but blocked Attorney General Dana Nessel's office from amending several counts to include an alternative charge of larceny.

The judge's decision was welcomed Friday by Nessel.

"Our investigation uncovered extensive evidence of elaborate schemes to embezzle and misappropriate private and public funds to bankroll Lee Chatfield’s lifestyle during his time as Speaker of the House,” Nessel said in a Friday statement.

Missile system designed by HUR downs Russia’s latest jet drone

During an air raid involving Russian drones against Odesa region on May 29, Ukraine’s Defense Forces destroyed the latest jet drone, launched by Russian invaders, using an anti-aircraft missile system developed by specialists from the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense (HUR)

The defense intelligence agency reported this on Telegram, publishing a corresponding video.

"On May 29, 2025, a mobile anti-aircraft missile system, fitted with R-73 missiles, developed by the defense intelligence agency of the Defense Ministry Ukraine with the support from foreign partners, was successfully used to repel a night-time enemy drone attack on Odesa region," the message says.

The training of operators for the specified air defense system was conducted by Ukrainian military intelligence operatives.

"After detecting a Russian drone, our Security and Defense Forces hit the target – the enemy's latest jet drone, likely a Dan-M, was destroyed: it plunged into the Black Sea," the HUR wrote.

As Ukrinform reported earlier, Ukraine’s defense intelligence posted footage of their combat mission in the temporarily captured territory of Zaporizhzhia region, where attack drones hit a Russian military train.

Deadly Russian drone hits police checkpoint in Ukraine's border region - caught on video

In Ukraine's Sumy region, a Russian Lancet drone struck a checkpoint. At the time, a police officer was present there.

RBC-Ukraine reports on what is known about the incident and the condition of the police officer.

A video recently circulated online showed a Russian Lancet (a loitering munition) hitting a checkpoint in the Sumy region, located at a crossroads.

Footage from a surveillance camera shows the timestamp as 11:57 AM on May 27.

Before the strike, a person can be seen standing under the shelter at the checkpoint. The Russian drone then makes a direct hit on the checkpoint.

According to Ukraine’s National Police, the police officer who was at the checkpoint during the strike survived. He sustained injuries and is currently undergoing rehabilitation.

Situation in the Sumy region

Since the Russian army became more active in the spring of 2025, the situation in the border areas of the Sumy region has remained difficult and tense.

Border settlements are under constant fire. Dozens of enemy attacks are recorded daily - using mortars, artillery, kamikaze drones, and guided aerial bombs.

The communities suffering the most from the aggressor’s terror are Bilopillia, Velyka Pysarivka, Krasnopillia, Yunakivka, and Khotin.

Last night, in particular, the enemy launched an attack using strike drones on the Stetskivka local administration in the Sumy district.

As a result, four residential buildings were damaged and a power line was destroyed, leaving around ten homes without electricity.

Drone uncovers booby-trapped apartment - saving soldiers’ lives

6 killed in Rapid Support Forces' drone strike on hospital in Sudan's North Kordofan: Rights group

At least six people were killed and 15 others injured when a drone operated by Sudan’s paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) struck a hospital in the city of El-Obeid, capital of North Kordofan State, a Sudanese legal group said Friday.

The Emergency Lawyers Committee, a rights watchdog, said in a statement that the RSF drone targeted Al-Dhaman Hospital, killing patients, medical staff, and attendants.

The strike also caused severe damage to the hospital, forcing it to suspend operations and exacerbating the already dire health crisis in the region.

The group condemned the attack as a war crime and a grave violation of international humanitarian law, holding the RSF accountable and calling for their prosecution.

This is not the first time the medical infrastructure in El-Obeid has come under attack.

On May 15, a drone strike launched by the RSF hit the Military Medical Corps Hospital in the same city, leaving several people dead and wounded, according to Sudanese authorities.

In recent months, the Sudanese government has repeatedly accused the RSF of launching drone attacks on civilian infrastructure, including electricity stations and other key facilities across northern and eastern cities.

The RSF has not issued public comments on the latest incidents.

Midlands prison guard stabbed by inmate who used knife 'dropped by drone'

A prison officer has been seriously injured after he was stabbed by an inmate at a Midlands prison.

Police and paramedics were called to HMP Long Lartin, in Evesham, around 10am on Friday

The Midlands Air Ambulance was also scrambled and landed at the Category A jail.

The victim was said to have sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to hospital.

An investigation is underway and the inmate remains within the prison, West Mercia Police said.

According to the Sun Online, the weapon was said to have been delivered to the prison by drone.

A spokesperson for West Mercia Police said: "We were called to HMP Long Lartin in South Littleton around 10am this morning (Friday 30 May), following a report someone had been assaulted by an inmate.

"One man was taken to hospital with serious injuries after sustaining a stab wound.

"The inmate remains within the prison and the investigation is on-going."

A Prison Service spokesperson said: “Police are investigating an attack on a prison officer at HMP Long Lartin.

“We will not tolerate assaults on hardworking staff and will always push for the strongest punishments against perpetrators."

A spokesperson for the West Midlands Ambulance Service said: "We were called to reports of a stabbing at a location off near South Littleton, Evesham at 8.39am.

"An ambulance, two paramedic officers and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Strensham were sent to the scene.

"On arrival, crews found a man who they treated for serious injuries before he was airlifted to hospital for further treatment."

The prison is home to 900 highly-dangerous inmates, including killers and terrorists.

Some of the prisoners include the 'Suffolk Stranger' Steve Wright and Joanna Yeates killer Vincent Tabak.

General Atomics Develops a GHOST Drone for the Air Force

The United States Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base (AFB), Ohio, has awarded a nearly $100 million contract to General Atomics Aeronautical Systems Inc.

(GA-ASI) to develop a hybrid-electric ducted fan-powered unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV). The next-generation drone has been dubbed GHOST, but it is unclear if that is an acronym or a code name.

“This contract provides for advancing the hybrid-electric ducted fan next-generation intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance/strike unmanned aerial systems to provide capabilities across a spectrum of contested environments.

Work will be performed at Poway, California, and is expected to be completed by Aug. 26, 2028,” the Pentagon contract announcement explained.

Specific details haven’t been provided, but GA-ASI has established itself in the UAV space, and there is already speculation that the company has been tasked with developing a drone that could utilize both a heavy-fuel engine and electric generators.

This could give the aircraft greater range, with the heavy-fuel engine delivering near a target when the much quieter electrical engines switch over to help avoid detection when entering the “contested environments.”

Neither General Atomics nor AFRL has commented publicly about the GHOST.

What Are the Capabilities of the GHOST Drone?

According to Flight Global, utilizing ducted fans could allow the GHOST vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) capabilities.

Although AFRL tends to fund research and development efforts rather than active procurement, this contract could be an effort to fast-track a drone UAV with intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance (ISR), and strike capabilities.

“The Pentagon has lost an unconfirmed number of General Atomics MQ-9A Reaper UAVs to enemy activity over Yemen and the Red Sea in recent months–each valued at some $30 million,” Flight Global further reported.

The Reaper has also seen significant updates in the past year. Satellite-controlled landings are set to become standard practice for the MQ-9 community, replacing legacy processes that require additional ground control stations, aircrews, and maintenance support.

In addition, tests were carried out earlier this year in which the MQ-9 Reaper was operated from an austere location.

It landed on a dirt strip and was refueled and rearmed before returning to the sky. The GHOST program could enable remote operations to conduct ISR or strike missions.

AFRL is already collaborating with aerospace giant Northrop Grumman and the Office of Naval Research on the XRQ-73 under the Series Hybrid Electric Propulsion Aircraft Demonstration (SHEPARD) program, which received a contract from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) approximately a year ago.

The XRQ-73 is a “Group 3” UAS, meaning it can fly below 18,000 feet at airspeeds ranging from 100 to 250 knots.

It utilizes a flying wing design and weighs approximately 1,250 pounds, just under the high end of Group 3’s weight range. It is unclear if the GA-ASI GHOST will fill a similar role as the SHEPARD program.

The more than three-year-long war in Ukraine has highlighted that drones have become the most significant threat on the modern battlefield, reportedly killing more soldiers than any other weapon platform.

President Trump’s new legislative centerpiece—the One Big Beautiful Bill—has a promising name and some compelling goals: reduce government bloat, streamline agencies, and modernize operations with cutting-edge technology.

But there’s a problem. A big one.

No one will tell us who’s programming the AI.

This sweeping bill includes a 10-year moratorium on any state or local government regulating artificial intelligence. According to The Washington Post and AP, more than 60 existing state-level laws will be overridden if this provision passes. All regulatory authority over AI—including systems that will be used in law enforcement, healthcare, defense, and finance—will be centralized in the federal government for a decade.

Even worse? The bill empowers the Department of Commerce to deploy “commercial AI” across virtually every federal agency—from the IRS to Homeland Security—according to Indian Express and The Verge.

And yet, no one in the White House or Congress has revealed who is writing the AI code, what datasets it’s trained on, whether it can be independently audited, or whether it’s bound by the U.S. Constitution.

This isn’t just a transparency issue. This is a constitutional crisis in the making.

To be clear, President Trump’s instincts here may be sound. We’ve long needed to shrink the federal leviathan and replace unconstitutional bureaucracies with systems that serve the people—not special interests.

But good intentions won’t protect us from unseen programmers, black-box algorithms, and unaccountable automation.

This bill mandates AI integration across government “to improve efficiency and security.” But efficiency isn’t liberty. Security isn’t sovereignty. And no AI—no matter how “smart”—should be allowed to rewrite, ignore, or reinterpret constitutional rights.

According to Business Insider, the AI moratorium’s stated goal is to “foster innovation” and avoid a “fragmented regulatory landscape.” In reality, it strips states of their authority to protect their citizens from deepfakes, algorithmic bias, digital censorship, and mass surveillance.

This is not governance. This is outsourced tyranny, hidden under the guise of modernization.

Kellogg Calls Russia's NATO Concerns 'Fair' - Warns Ukraine It Better Show Up In Istanbul

Moscow this week demanded of the West a written commitment to stop further enlargement, especially when it comes to the potential for Ukraine, Moldova and Georgia one day entering the NATO alliance. "It’s a fair concern and we’ve said that repeatedly… that to us Ukraine coming into NATO is not on the table," Kellogg said.

"And they're not just talking Ukraine – they're talking the country of Georgia, they're talking Moldova, they're talking, obviously, Ukraine," the top Trump envoy stated.

"We’re saying: okay, comprehensively we can stop the expansion of NATO coming close to your border," Kellogg added, noting that such a move would ultimately require a presidential-level decision.

This appears a clear affirmation that Washington is ready to do this as part of ongoing negotiations - but the big question will be whether other powerful members of the alliance are ready to sign off. After all, there is currently a 'coalition of the willing' led by the UK, France, and Germany which has somewhat broken with the US on these matters.

This week, the written guarantees and other conditions Moscow has requested have been spelled out in English-language Russian state media as follows:

Partial sanctions relief for Russia

Return of frozen Russian assets

Protections for Ukraine’s Russian-speaking people

And then an or else was offered as part of an ultimatum. While not officially issued by the Kremlin, this appears some very intentional signaling by Putin officials. It was conveyed via a Wednesday Reuters report:

The first source said that, if Putin realizes he is unable to reach a peace deal on his own terms, he will seek to show the Ukrainians and the Europeans through military strength that "peace tomorrow will be even more painful."

WASHINGTON (AP) — A federal judge refused Wednesday to temporarily block the Trump administration from removing and replacing the director of the U.S. Copyright Office.

U.S. District Judge Timothy Kelly ruled from the bench that the office director,Shira Perlmutter, hasn’t met her legal burden to show how removing her from the position would cause her to suffer irreparable harm.

Kelly’s refusal to issue a temporary restraining order isn’t the final word in the lawsuit that Perlmutter filed last week. If Perlmutter decides to seek a preliminary injunction, the judge is giving her attorneys and government lawyers until Thursday afternoon to present him with a proposed schedule for arguing and deciding the matter.

Perlmutter’s attorneys say she is a renowned copyright expert who also has served as Register of Copyrightssince the former Librarian of Congress, Carla Hayden, appointed her to the job in October 2020.

Earlier this month, Trump appointed Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche to replace Hayden as Librarian of Congress.The White House fired Hayden amid criticism from conservatives that she was advancing a “woke” agenda.

Perlmutter’s position is considered part of the legislative branch of government. The U.S. Copyright Office is housed within the Library of Congress, and its director is chosen by the Librarian of Congress, who is also a legislative branch employee but nominated by the president and subject to Senate confirmation.

Perlmutter’s lawyers argued that the president doesn’t have the authority to unilaterally remove the Register of Copyrights or appoint an acting Librarian of Congress.

The Supreme Court sided with Trump in two other high-profile firings last week, when the conservative majority cleared the way for him to fire two independent board members. The firings left both agencies without enough board members to take final actions.

As Netanyahu threatens to upend U.S. talks with Iran by launching a unilateral strike himself — it’s unclear what the Trump admin plans to do and whether war is on the horizon. Took U.S. hostages and attacked the U.S. embassy in Beirut.

Orchestrated the Khobar Towers bombing in Saudi Arabia (1996), killing 19 U.S. servicemen.

Planned a terrorist attack in Washington, D.C. in 2011; plot was foiled by the CIA.

To which Horton replied point-by-point:

U.S. and Western interventions (via USAID, NED, IRI, NDI, Soros orgs) aimed to provoke regime change in Iran, such as the 2009 Green Revolution, prompting Iran’s fear and secrecy.

Natanz facility secrecy was due to Iran being blocked by the Nuclear Suppliers Group from purchasing legal nuclear technology, forcing it to buy from AQ Khan’s black market network.

The discovery of Natanz was not initially by Israeli intelligence or the MEK, but by David Albright, an American nuclear expert.

MEK (Mujahideen-e-Khalq), cited in claims of exposing Iran’s nuclear program, is described as a “communist terrorist cult” with a history of switching allegiances and spreading false intelligence.

The claim about Iran developing nuclear triggers at Parchin is refuted:

The scientist involved was Igor Danchenko, an expert in nano-diamonds, not nuclear weapons.

There is no credible evidence linking him to nuclear weapons research.

The 2007 U.S. National Intelligence Estimate (NIE) concluded that Iran halted its nuclear weapons program, largely due to the removal of Saddam Hussein, which eliminated Iran’s primary deterrent need.

Israel itself engaged in nuclear espionage, including stealing Krytrons (nuclear triggers) from the U.S., highlighting hypocrisy in Israeli accusations.

The 1983 Beirut bombing:

Occurred 42 years ago and was carried out by proto-Hezbollah, not directly ordered by Tehran.

Israel was aware of the attack but didn’t warn the U.S., according to former Israeli spy Victor Ostrovsky.

The Khobar Towers bombing (1996):

Attributed to al-Qaeda, not Iran. Specifically, Osama bin Laden and Khalid Sheikh Mohammed were responsible.

CIA experts, including Michael Scheuer, and bin Laden himself, confirmed this.

The 2011 Washington D.C. restaurant plot:

Dismissed as a hoax involving a used car salesman with no real ties to the Iranian regime.

The target was a minor diplomat, and the plot was more of a drug deal gone wrong than a genuine Iranian terror plot.

“We are Going to Have a Catastrophic Event”: Drone Incursions in Restricted Airspace are Surging in 2025

It happened in an instant. As a commercial airliner descended toward a major U.S. airport in March 2025, the flight crew received a tense alert from air traffic control: illegal drone activity had been spotted in the area.

Seconds later, a “relatively large,” silver drone burst into view—streaking just 20 feet past the aircraft’s left wing at 3,300 feet. The pilots had no time to react.

“The drone was about 4 to 5 feet in diameter,” the pilot later recounted. “The incident happened too quickly to take any evasive maneuvers.”

The co-pilot described seeing the drone from the flight deck window at eye level, noting that it was “larger than a typical personal drone.”

This was far from an isolated encounter.

According to data reviewed by The Debrief, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) recorded 411 reports of illegal drone incursions near airports across the United States from January to March—an unsettling 25.6% increase from the 327 reports during the same period in 2024.

The figures obtained from the FAA and incident reports filed with the NASA Aviation Safety Reporting System (ASRS) reveal a troubling and potentially dangerous trend, highlighting the growing challenge that unauthorized drones pose to aviation safety.

Alarming Spike in Drone Incursions

For much of the last two years, the number of unauthorized drone incursions reported by commercial pilots, airport operators, and air traffic controllers remained relatively steady.

According to the FAA, between Q1 2023 and Q1 2024, the increase was modest—just 4.8%—suggesting incremental growth aligned with the expanding popularity of consumer and commercial drones.

However, that sense of gradual growth was upended in late 2024, when a wave of “mystery drone” sightings in the skies over New Jersey and other parts of the Northeast drew national attention and intensified scrutiny of illegal drone incursions.

Multiple witnesses described the drones as flying in coordinated patterns—often at night and without identifiable markings—which triggered investigations by local authorities, the FAA, the FBI, and even the Department of Defense.

During the height of the mystery drone frenzy, both the Pentagon and the White House issued a series of conflicting and often perplexing statements, ultimately concluding that the sightings did not pose a “national security or public safety risk.” In January 2025, the incoming Trump administration sought to quell any remaining concern over the December incidents in New Jersey.

“After research and study, the drones that were flying over New Jersey in large numbers were authorized to be flown by the FAA for research and various other reasons,” said White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt.

Yet the FAA’s quarterly data and incident reports from NASA’s ASRS tell a far more troubling story—one of a sharp escalation in hazardous drone incursions across U.S. restricted airspace.

Multiple reports from the ASRS database from early 2025 describe near-midair collisions (NMACs) between drones and passenger jets, with drones appearing just feet away from cockpits or wing tips.

In a March incident over Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH), a drone with a flashing red light passed within 50-100 feet of an inbound commercial airliner.

No evasive action was taken, but the pilots filed an immediate report and notified air traffic control.

That same month, a black, roughly one-foot square drone reportedly passed within 5 to 7 feet of the front flight deck window of a commercial cargo plane descending into Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport.

In February, near Long Beach, California, the pilot of a small single-engine aircraft recounted a near-miss with a “bright red, multi-rotor drone” that “flashed past” the plane at an altitude of 3,500 feet.

“Had the drone intersected my flight path, it could have caused a catastrophic midair collision, with probable impact to control surfaces, propeller, engine, fuel tank, or canopy,” the pilot wrote in the ASRS report.

“Had it impacted the canopy head-on, I would have been killed instantly.”

Judge Smacks Down Bureaucrat Who Claimed Trump Can’t Fire Her

A federal bureaucrat went to court to insist that, because President Donald Trump cannot fire her, the Trump administration should be halted from doing so.

However, Shira Perlmutter, former director of the U.S. Copyright Office, lost a round in court on Wednesday after U.S. District Judge Timothy Kelly said she failed to show irreparable harm from being fired, according to the Associated Press.

Kelly did not decide the merits of Perlmutter’s suit.He only rejected her demand for a temporary restraining orderthat would have let her keep her job while the legal wrangling goes on.

Perlmutter has been Register of Copyrights since October 2020.Trump has appointed Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche as Librarian of Congress, to replace Carla Hayden, who appointed Perlmutter.

The U.S. Copyright Office operates within the Library of Congress. The Librarian of Congress, who works for the legislative branch but is a presidential appointment subject to Senate confirmation, chooses its director.

The lawsuit is aimed at Blanche as well as the wider Trump administration, according to Politico.

Justice Department lawyers said in a court filingthatPerlmutter is wrongly claiming she is an exception to the rules.

“The Constitution creates three branches of Government. There is Congress, the Executive, and the Judiciary.There is no fourth constitutional categoryreserved for an indeterminate-and-multiplying number of autonomous federal organizations. That simple principle suffices to deny Plaintiff’s motion,” the filing said.

The filing said Trump acted in an orderly manner.

“The President of the United States removed Carla Hayden from her position as Librarian of Congressand designated the Deputy Attorney General, Todd Blanche, as acting Librarian,” the filing said.

The President then removed Plaintiff, Shira Perlmutter, from serviceas the Register of Copyrights and Director of the U.S. Copyright Office— a decision that was ratified by Mr. Blanche in his role as acting Librarian, including through Mr. Blanche’s appointment of Paul Perkins to that role,” the filing said.

“The President had the power to remove the Librarian and designate an acting replacement.The Library of Congress is not an autonomous organization free from political supervision. It is part of the Executive Branch and is subject to presidential control, according to the strictures of the Federal Vacancies Reform Act,” the filing said.

The filing said Perlmutter had no claim to retain her job, noting,“Plaintiff has no right to perpetual service as Register of Copyrights.”

“The other injuries Plaintiff postulates are not her injuries, but supposed institutional injuries to the Library or to Congress — injuries that cannot support her request for judicial reinstallation to office.

And Plaintiff makes no claim that the U.S. Copyright Office is somehow in jeopardy,” the filing said.

After the ruling, the White House stood by its position, according to Roll Call.

“All organizations are more effective when leaders are rowing in the same direction,” White House representative Anna Kelly said in a statement. “President Trump reserves the rightto remove employees within his own Executive Branch who exert his executive authority.”

Ross Coulthart: ‘Contact in the Desert’ gets us closer to answers

The meeting of the minds at the “Contact in the Desert” conference could push the needle on UFO and unidentified anomalous phenomena, aka UAP, disclosure from the United States government.

NewsNation special correspondent Ross Coulthart joined “Morning in America” to talk about the conference that focused on UFO and UAP research.

“A lot of people are asking, ‘What is the U.S. government doing to address these concerns?

Amid President Donald Trump’s crackdown on illegal immigration, Washington, D.C., mayor Muriel Bowser (D.) is doing an abrupt about-face from her previous views on enforcement, working to repeal a law that bars local police from assisting ICE.

Bowser is quietly proposing to overturn the sanctuary city law, which=prohibits D.C. officials from inquiring about a detainee’s immigration status, transferring individuals to ICE, or allowing ICE to interview suspects in local custody without a judicial order, Axiosreported.

“The mayor is asking for the repeal without fanfare, via a tucked-away provision as part of her newly released 2026 budget proposal,” according to Axios, which noted that “the D.C. Council has final say over what makes it into the budget, and some progressive members may thwart Bowser’s push.”

Bowser’s hawkishness on immigration marks a sharp change from the positions she’s held since becoming mayor in 2015.

During Trump’s first term, she tweeted that D.C. is a “proud sanctuary city” and that she is “committed to protecting the rights of all our immigrant families” in the face of what she called Trump’s “disturbing” immigration crackdown.
