Western narratives often portray them simplistically as 'absolute monarchies,' failing to appreciate the internal mechanisms of governance that underpin their stability. In reality, the political architecture of the Gulf is more accurately described as 'sheikhism' – a system rooted in consensus among tribal and familial elites, structured around a balance of obligations, reciprocal loyalties, and ongoing consultation. This model, which integrates Islamic principles such as shura (consultation) with practical statecraft, has proven remarkably adaptive and resilient.

In this context, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Qatarcan no longer be viewed merely as privileged US allies or energy suppliers. They are emerging as autonomous actors in global politics – capable of forging regional alliances, shaping international agendas across energy, media, and technology, and mediating in global conflicts. Their evolving role reflects not dependence on external security guarantees, but the outcome of deliberate, long-term strategies to consolidate sovereignty, enhance prestige, and assert influence in the 21st century.

Lawfare blogger Benjamin Wittes—a personal friend of Comey's-tweeted that the "Reinhold Niebuhr" account using the handle FormerBu "is in fact, James Comey himself."

According to the Times, "Bu" is FBI lingo for "Bureau."

Wittes tweeted the confirmation after "Reinhold Niebuhr" posted a photo of a person resembling Comey standing on a road wearing sunglasses and with his arms crossed and looking off in the distance.

Before the Gizmodo story, Comey had tweeted under the handle "projectexile7," which was a federal program Comey helped initiate. At the time, the account never tweeted, though it followed others and liked their tweets. Wittes was the only follower of projectexile7 at that time.

Once Comey starting using the name "Troll Security Service" with the user name "projectexile7", he began to tweet in 2018 a relentless public stream of hatefilled comments against President Trump, in addition to his vile tweet against Charlie Kirk and Turning Point USA, among his other extremely disturbing vitrol.

At its core, Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s movement aims to revive the nation's health by restoring integrity to the food supply chain—prioritizing cleaner food with fewer chemicals and less industrial farming while reducing reliance on the pharmaceutical industry's profit-driven approach to managing chronic disease. It turns out that cleaner food and regular exercise may be all it takes to help cure a nation of its sickness. Not Ozempic.

Bloomberg pointed out that food safety and production standards are again in focus following a new U.S.-UK trade deal. While the agreement reduces barriers to billions of dollars in U.S. exports—including beef—the UK continues to ban hormone-treated meat and chlorine-washed chicken, practices common in the U.S. but prohibited in the EU and UK due to stricter regulations.

The WHO Cannot Be Saved

As humans, we commonly consider ourselves, our beliefs, and our work of particular importance. It is not surprising, then, that when we form institutions, those within them seek to promote the institution’s relevance, expand their work, and centralize decision-making within their own ‘particularly important’ group. Few want to divest power and resources, let alone put themselves and their colleagues out of a job. This fatal flaw infects all bureaucracies, from local to national and regional to international.

It is unsurprising, then, that the World Health Organization (WHO), an international health bureaucracy of over 9,000 staff, a quarter of them in Geneva, should suffer the same problems. The WHO was originally intended primarily to transfer capacity to struggling states emerging from colonialism and address their higher burdens of disease but lower administrative and financial capabilities. This prioritized fundamentals like sanitation, good nutrition, and competent health services that had brought long life to people in wealthier countries. Its focus now is more on stocking shelves with manufactured commodities. Its budget, staffing, and remit expand as actual country need and infectious disease mortality decline over the years.

While major gaps in underlying health equality remain, and were recently exacerbated by the WHO’s Covid-19 policies, the world is a very different place from 1948 when it was formed. Rather than acknowledging progress, however, we are told we are simply in an ‘inter-pandemic period,’ and the WHO and its partners should be given ever more responsibility and resources to save us from the next hypothetical outbreak (like Disease-X). Increasingly dependent on ‘specified’ funding from national and private interests heavily invested in profitable biotech fixes rather than the underlying drivers of good health, the WHO looks more and more like other public-private partnerships that channel taxpayer money to the priorities of private industry.

Pandemics happen, but a proven natural one of major impact on life expectancy has not happened since pre-antibiotic era Spanish flu over a hundred years ago. We all understand that better nutrition, sewers, potable water, living conditions, antibiotics, and modern medicines protect us, yet we are told to be ever more fearful of the next outbreak. Covid happened, but it overwhelmingly affected the elderly in Europe and the Americas. Moreover, it looks, as the US government now makes clear, almost certainly a laboratory mistake by the very pandemic industry that is promoting the WHO’s new approach.

Collaborating on health internationally remains popular, as it should be in a heavily interdependent world. It also makes sense to prepare for severe rare events – most of us buy insurance. But we don’t exaggerate flood risk in order to expand the flood insurance industry, as anything we spend is money taken from our other needs.

Public health is no different. If we were designing a new WHO now, no sane model would base its funding and direction primarily on the interests and advice of those who profit from illness. Rather, these would be based on accurate estimates of localized risks of the big killer diseases. The WHO was once independent of private interests, mostly core-funded, and able to set rational priorities. That WHO is gone.

Over the past 80 years, the world has also changed. It makes no sense now to base thousands of health staff in one of the world’s most expensive (and healthiest!) cities, and it makes no sense in a technologically advancing world to keep centralizing control there. The WHO was structured in a time when most mail still went by steamship. It stands increasingly as an anomaly to its mission and to the world in which it works. Would a network of regional bodies tied to their local context not be more responsive and effective than a distant, disconnected, and centralized bureaucracy of thousands?

Amidst the broader turmoil roiling the post-1945 international liberal order, the recent US notice of withdrawal from the WHO presents a unique opportunity to rethink the type of international health institution the world needs, how that should operate, where, for what purpose, and for how long.

What should be the use-by date of an international institution? In the WHO’s case, either health is getting better as countries build capacity and it should be downsizing. Or health is getting worse, in which case the model has failed and we need something more fit for purpose.

AG Barr: Epstein’s death was a ‘perfect storm of screw-ups’

ABOARD A US GOVERNMENT AIRCRAFT (AP) — Attorney General William Barr said he initially had his own suspicions about financier Jeffrey Epstein’s death while behind bars at one of the most secure jails in America but came to conclude that his suicide was the result of “a perfect storm of screw-ups.”

In an interview with The Associated Press, Barr said his concerns were prompted by the numerous irregularities at the New York jail where Epstein was being held. But he said after the FBI and the Justice Department’s inspector general continued to investigate, he realized there were a “series” of mistakes made that gave Epstein the chance to take his own life.

“I can understand people who immediately, whose minds went to sort of the worst-case scenario because it was a perfect storm of screw-ups,” Barr told the AP as he flew to Montana for an event.

Barr’s comments come days after two correctional officers who were responsible for guarding the wealthy financier when he died were charged with falsifying prison records. Officers Tova Noel and Michael Thomas are accused of sleeping and browsing the internet — shopping for furniture and motorcycles — instead of watching Epstein, who was supposed to be checked on every 30 minutes.

Epstein took his own life in August while awaiting trial on charges he sexually abused girls as young as 14 and young women in New York and Florida in the early 2000s.

His suicide cast a spotlight on the federal Bureau of Prisons, which has been plagued by chronic staffing shortages and outbreaks of violence. The indictment unsealed this week against the officers shows a damning glimpse of safety lapses inside a high-security unit at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in Manhattan.

But the indictment also provided new details that reinforce the idea that, for all the intrigue regarding Epstein and his connections to powerful people, his death was a suicide — as the city’s medical examiner concluded — and possibly preventable.

A lawyer for Thomas, Montell Figgins, said both guards are being “scapegoated.”

The attorney general also sought to dampen conspiracy theories by people who have questioned whether Epstein really took his own life, saying the evidence proves Epstein killed himself. He added that he personally reviewed security footage that confirmed that no one entered the area where Epstein was housed on the night he died.

Epstein was placed on suicide watch after he was found July 23 on his cell floor with bruises on his neck but was taken off the heightened watch about a week before his death, meaning he was less closely monitored but still supposed to be checked on every 30 minutes. He was required to have a cellmate, but he was left with none after his cellmate was transferred out of the MCC on Aug. 9, the day before his death, the indictment said.

Epstein was found unresponsive in his cell when the guards went to deliver breakfast. One of the guards told a supervisor then that they hadn’t done their 3 a.m. or 5 a.m. rounds, according to the indictment.

The Justice Department is still investigating the circumstances that led to Epstein’s death, including why he wasn’t given a cellmate.

“I think it was important to have a roommate in there with him and we’re looking into why that wasn’t done, and I think every indication is that was a screw-up,” Barr said. “The systems to assure that was done were not followed.”

Epstein’s death ended the possibility of a trial that would have involved prominent figures and sparked widespread anger that he wouldn’t have to answer for the allegations.

Even with his death, federal prosecutors in New York have continued to investigate the allegations against Epstein. Barr, who has vowed to aggressively investigate and bring charges against anyone who may have helped Epstein, said investigators were making good progress in the case.

“They are definitely pushing things along,” Barr said. “I’ll just say there is good progress being made, and I’m hopeful in a relatively short time there will be tangible results.”

LaVeyan Satanists accept no beliefs in an afterlife. Each person comes into existence at birth and disappears at death. The period in-betweenone lifetimeis the sum total of existence. Therefore, life is something to be enjoyed to its fullest.

Death Is Not a Reward

Beliefs Concerning Suicide

As a general rule, the Church of Satan frowns upon both self-sacrifice and suicide, because it is the ultimate denial of the fulfillment of one's own life.

Satanists do accept suicide as a reasonable option for those who are suffering

"Extreme circumstances which make the termination of life a welcome relief from an unendurable earthly existence." (p. 94.)

In short, suicide is acceptable when it becomes a true indulgence.

Bettering the Lives of Others

While Satanism encourages indulgence and ego-fulfillment, it in no way suggests that people should not show kindness toward others or do favors for them. Quite the opposite, as LaVey argues:

Only if a person's own ego is sufficiently fulfilled, can he afford to be kind and complimentary to others, without robbing himself of his self-respect. We generally think of a braggart as a person with a large ego; in reality, his bragging results from a need to satisfy his impoverished ego. (p. 94)

The ego-fulfilled man can show kindness out of honest emotion, while the ego-denied man puts on a dishonest show of kindness out of need or fear. The Nine Satanic Statements even includes the line, "Satan represents kindness to those who deserve it, instead of love wasted on ingrates!"

After he was told that accused child sex-trafficker and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein died by suicide in the Metropolitan Correctional Center in New York City, U.S. Attorney General William Barr was immediately aware of the intense backlash that would head his way. Epstein, one of the nation’s most high-profile prisoners–while housed in a federal facility–was taken off of suicide watch before his death, despite a reported unsuccessful suicide attempt in the weeks prior.

According to the New York Times, Barr was at home when he received news of Epstein’s death early that Saturday morning; he “immediately knew” that his name would be attached to a new–and unexpected–scandal. Barr reportedly inserted himself directly into the matter and made a number of unconventional decisions in an attempt to subdue the impending scandal and prevent any conspiracy theories from taking root. What’s more, the Times headline suggested, Barr’s furious response may have had something to do with mounting doubts about the Trump Administration’s DOJ.

After spending the remainder of Saturday morning furiously questioning his deputies, Barr reportedly ordered the FBI investigation into Epstein’s death, as well as an Inspector General inquiry directed at identifying any protocol failures that may have allowed Epstein to take his own life.

After the federal Bureau of Prisons released confirmation of Epstein’s death, Barr reportedly surprised many officials by not allowing the Bureau to control the narrative. Instead, Barr released his own statement regarding the situation.

“I was appalled to learn that Jeffrey Epstein was found dead early this morning from an apparent suicide while in federal custody. Mr. Epstein’s death raises serious questions that must be answered. In addition to the FBI’s investigation, I have consulted with the Inspector General who is opening an investigation into the circumstances of Mr. Epstein’s death,” he said.

As more information about the circumstances of Epstein’s suicide emerged, Barr remained hands-on in the response process. He quickly placed two prison officials on leave after learning they had broken protocol by not checking on Epstein every 30 minutes the night of his death, and immediately removed MCC warden Lamine N’Diaye from that post.

Barr continued to comment on Epstein investigation in the intervening days, telling reporters that there were “serious irregularities” at MCC the following Monday.

“I was appalled, and indeed the whole department was, and frankly angry to learn of the MCC’s failure to adequately secure this prisoner,” Barr said at a New Orleans police conference two days after Epstein’s death. “We are now learning of serious irregularities at this facility that are deeply concerning and demand a thorough investigation. The FBI and the office of inspector general are doing just that.”

“We will get to the bottom of what happened and there will be accountability,” he promised.

Barr took things a step further, announcing that he was removing the acting director of the Bureau of Prisons (BOP) Hugh Hurwitz from that role. Barr announced he was replacing Hurwitz with Dr. Kathleen Hawk Sawyer, who served as BOP Director from 1992 to 2003. She was the first woman to lead the BOP. Barr also announced that Dr. Thomas R. Kane is the choice for Deputy Director of the BOP.

It was reported Thursday that “as many as 20″ corrections officers have received subpoenas.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents arrested a Guatemalan illegal alien for submitting false statements to become a sponsor for two unaccompanied alien children. Among other things, the man submitted an “obviously photoshopped” photo to help establish a familial relationship to one of the boys. ICE agents filed a criminal complaint in the District of New Jersey against Luciano Tinuar Quino for submitting false statements to gain custody of two unaccompanied alien children who illegally entered the U.S. in 2022. According to a statement from ICE officials, Tinuar Quino managed to gain custody of one of the children from the Biden administration’s Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR).

After a brief historic review of satanism, the document describes various types of involvement in satanic beliefs and rituals and their association with various criminal behaviors. The religious satanists, the most notable of which are the Church of Satan, Church of Satanic Liberation, and the Temple of Set, provide a context for groups to participate in traditional satanic rituals. Although there have been recent investigations into alleged activities of individual members of these groups, there has been little criminal activity linked to the organized churches. "Experimentalists" are defined as youths who dabble in satanism and drugs coupled with suggestive heavy metal music, horror videos, and fantasy role-play games. Criminal activities traced to such experimentalists have included trespass, burglary, criminal damage, drug use, homicide, and suicide.

Suicide is a significant problem often associated with written pacts with the devil.A "self-styled satanist" is a sociopath, psychopath, or drug addict who justifies criminal acts through a belief system centered in Satan. Groups in this category include outlaw motorcycle gangs, extremist groups, drug-dealing organizations, prison inmates, and serial killers. A "satanic cult" is a relatively cohesive group of persons, akin to "self-styled satanists," who subscribe to the perpetration of evil in a variety of ways. These cults are often composed of persons with severe mental and behavioral problems who are attracted to satanism because it condones and encourages antisocial and deviant behavior. "Orthodox satanic groups" are intergenerational as they pass their belief systems, rituals, and coven structure from one generation to the next.
