Moderna, Sarepta Puke After FDA Names Vinay Prasad As Vaccines, Biologics Head

Vaccine and immunotherapies companies tumbled during the afternoon cash session in New York after FDA Commissioner Marty Makary named Vinay Prasad the next director of the Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research.

Several media outlets cited an internal email from Makary to staff members earlier today that announced Prasad's new position to head up biologics at the FDA. This comes weeks after former biologics head Peter Marks abruptly quit.

STAT News' Adam Feuerstein shared a screenshot of Makary's email on X.

Makary told FDA workers that Prasad had published more than 500 academic articles and "done extensive research in the field of oncology and has presented at hundreds of scientific and medical conferences," adding, "He is also the author of the books, "Malignant: How Bad Policy and Bad Evidence Harm People with Cancer" and "Ending Medical Reversal: Improving Outcomes, Saving Lives.""

Prasad has been a sharp critic of the Covid-19 vaccine for children, as well as a critic of Marks, as per Daily Caller's Emily Kopp's note on X

In markets, the SPDR S&P Biotech ETF (XBI) fell 6.5%. Vaccine stocks Moderna dropped 11.5% and Novavax fell 3%. Gene therapy firm Sarepta Therapeutics plunged 22%.

"The Street is reacting negatively to the news given some of the color around Prasad and his stance on covid-19 vaccines, the broader drug approval process including accelerated approvals and other comments that on the surface appear to be more anti-industry versus amicable," said Jared Holz, a health-care analyst at Mizuho Securities USA, who was quoted by Bloomberg.

Canadian journalist Stephen Marche said Tuesday on MSNBC’s “Katy Tur Reports” that Canada should worry about war with the United States because President Donald Trump could convince Americans of anything.

Tur said, “Stephen, let me ask you about the article you wrote for The Atlantic — and I sent this around to my friends. Just the very fact that it was published I think is surprising, that we can have a conversation that is serious about what a war with Canada would look like. Explain why it’s no longer unthinkable.”

Marche said, “Well, because Donald Trump makes us think it, right? I mean, he talks about annexing us on a regular basis. I mean, somewhere around 2% of the American population actually want to do this, but you know, at this point in its history, you know the American people can obviously be convinced of anything, right? And already you see numbers of Republicans who consider Canada an enemy to be growing are.”

He added, “And, you know, I think when countries are in constitutional crisis, and when their legal system starts to fall apart, as America’s legal system is falling apart, violence against neighboring countries is a very common, to me it’s very intimately tied with this talk about being a third term president, right? JUST IN: President Trump Responds to Senator Thom Tillis’ Objection to DC US Attorney Nominee Ed Martin

President Trump on Wednesday participated in a swearing-in ceremony for David Purdue, the Ambassador to the People’s Republic of China.

Reporters asked President Trump questions after the ceremony.

One reporter asked President Trump about Senator Tillis’ decision to come out against Ed Martin.

Tuesday RINO Senator Thom Tillis, who voted to confirm Biden’s radical pick for Attorney General Merrick Garland, told reporters that he opposes the nomination of Ed Martin for DC US Attorney.

Tillis made a shocking admission to reporters. He actually said he would support Ed Martin for any district except where January 6 happened.

In other words, Tillis admitted Ed Martin is qualified to be a US Attorney, but he’s potentially derailing Martin’s nomination for political reasons.

“I have no tolerance for anybody who entered the building on January the 6th, and that’s probably where most of the friction was,” Tillis said.

The North Carolina Senator said people who merely entered the US Capitol on January 6 (after police opened the doors and let them in) should serve up to 3 years behind bars.

Tillis admitted Ed Martin was doing a great job with his investigation into Biden US Attorney Matthew Graves’ unlawful use of the 1512(c)(2) obstruction charge to lock up January 6 defendants.

However, he will be opposing Ed Martin’s nomination for political reasons.
