Pilot of doomed Hudson River helicopter ID’d as Navy SEAL veteran who had posted chilling video month before death

The pilot of the doomed helicopter that crashed into the Hudson River was a Navy SEAL veteran — and posted chilling video of himself last month proudly flying in the same type of chopper over Lower Manhattan.

“When it all comes together…,” Sean Johnson, 36, wrote next to the now-eerie Facebook footage, which showed him in a Bell 206 helicopter March 2

Friends congratulated him in their comments, with one telling him he was “living the dream” and another praising his accomplishments over the past year.

Johnson had worked in television and as a bodyguard to celebrities before recently moved to New York City to continue his aviation career, Gothamist reported, citing his wife.

He was operating a doomed Bell 206 on Thursday as part of a sightseeing tour for a family of five from Barcelona.

While in the Navy, he served as a SEAL and a gunner’s mate responsible for operating, maintaining and repairing weapons systems.

But he “always wanted to fly,” his wife Kathryn Johnson told Gothamist.

“ I’m just at loss for words,” she said. “I don’t even know what happened.”

Johnson said she and her husband had been separated for the last few months but were still close and even spoke the day before the tragic accident.

Her husband did not mention Thursday’s flight plans to his wife in the call, and she heard the heartbreaking news from a former colleague of his, she said.

A Butler, Pennsylvania man has been charged with making online threats to assault and murder President Donald Trump as well as other officials. Butler was the location of an attempt on Trump's life at a July campaign rally last year.

According to the Department of Justice, 32-year-old Shawn Monper was taken into custody by the FBI, with the assistance of the Butler Township Police Department, and was detained. A hearing is set for April 14.

On April 8, the FBI’s National Threat Operations Section received an emergency disclosure regarding threats made by a YouTube user called "Mr Satan." Authorities found that the threatening statements occurred between January 15, five days before Trump entered office again, and April 5. An investigation revealed that the internet activity associated with the account corresponded with Monper’s address.

The investigation also revealed that Monper obtained a firearms permit just after Trump’s inauguration. He allegedly wrote using the Mr Satan account in February, "I have bought several guns and been stocking up on ammo since Trump got in office." A March comment stated, "Eventually im going to do a mass shooting, and one week later he allegedly wrote, "I have been buying 1 gun a month since the election, body armor, and ammo."

Other threats outlined in the complaint included one on February 17 which stated, "Nah, we just need to start killing people, Trump, Elon, all the heads of agencies Trump appointed, and anyone who stands in the way. Remember, we are the majority, MAGA is a minority of the country, and by the time its time to make the move, they will be weakened, many will be crushed by these policies, and they will want revenge too. American Revolution 2.0."

Another comment made on March 4 stated, "im going to assassinate him myself.” This threat was made in a YouTube video titled “Live: Trump’s address to Congress."

"ICE are terrorist people, we need to start killing them," Monper allegedly wrote on March 18. On April 1, he allegedly wrote, "If I see an armed ice agent, I will consider it a domestic terrorist, and an active shooter and open fire on them."

An immigration judge has ruled in favor of the Trump administration in allowing for the deportation of Mahmoud Khalil, an anti-Israel Columbia University activist who had been in the United States on a visa, which has been revoked.

Immigration judge Jamee Comans from Louisianna ruled that Khalil can be deported because of the evidence against him, The Hill reported. Khalil was arrested in March and has been placed in an immigration detention center since.

Judicial Watch sues the DOJ for the Epstein Client List

Former National Security Agency Director Mike Rogers told FBI agents that the crux of a Pulitzer Prize award-winning Washington Post story on the Russian collusion hoax was “wrong," according to newly declassified documents obtained by Just the News.

Admiral Rogers, who retired in 2018 after four years as National Security Agency chief and commander of U.S. Cyber Command, spoke with FBI agents and a key member of special counsel Robert Mueller’s team in June 2017, where he threw cold water on a May 2017 story by the Post titled, “Trump asked intelligence chiefs to push back against FBI collusion probe after Comey revealed its existence.”

It is not yet known whether the Post had been told prior to the May 2017 publishing of their story that Rogers was denying their characterization of his talk with Trump, but it is now known that Rogers was telling federal investigators in June 2017 that the story was bogus.

The Post story — now known to have been directly refuted by one of its main subjects the month after it published — would go on to be among the Russiagate stories published by the outlet to win a Pulitzer Prize in 2018. Trump is currently suing the Pulitzer Board for defamation for continuing to defend the awards it gave to this collusion-related story and numerous others. A Florida circuit court judge denied the Pulitzer Board’s motion to delay President Donald Trump’s defamation lawsuit against them on presidential immunity grounds.

The newly-released Rogers interview with the Mueller team shows that the then-NSA director was read a quote from The Washington Post article — that “President Trump urged [Rogers] to publicly deny the existence of any evidence of collusion during the 2016 election” — with the FBI notes stating that “Rogers responded that the media characterization was wrong, and the President had asked about the existence of SIGINT [signals intelligence] evidence only.”

The Rogers interview was among hundreds of pages of Crossfire Hurricane documents declassified by President Trump and sent to Congress by FBI Director Kash Patel.

The Pulitzer Prize Board's website said the 2018 Pulitzer Prize in National Reporting was awarded to the staffs of the Washington Post and New York Times “for deeply sourced, relentlessly reported coverage in the public interest that dramatically furthered the nation’s understanding of Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election and its connections to the Trump campaign, the President-elect’s transition team, and his eventual administration.”

Among the “Winning Works” was the story that Rogers directly refuted, listed by the Pulitzer Prize website with the title “President asked intelligence chiefs to deny collusion (Washington Post).”

Judicial Watch Sues Justice Department for Epstein Client Lists

(Washington, DC) – Judicial Watch announced today it filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit against the U.S. Department of Justice for records regarding Jeffrey Epstein, including any records on the identities of clients or associates of Epstein (Judicial Watch Inc. v. The Trump administration has ordered State Department employees to report on any instances of coworkers displaying “anti-Christian bias” as part of its effort to implement a sweeping new executive order on supporting employees of Christian faith working in the federal government.

The department, according to a copy of an internal cable obtained by POLITICO, will work with an administration-wide task force to collect information “involving anti-religious bias during the last presidential administration” and will collect examples of anti-Christian bias through anonymous employee report forms.

The cable was sent out to embassies around the world under Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s name. The instructions also were released in a department-wide notice. (Almost every grant and operation in foreign countries were specifically anti Christian, it was clearly their goal.)

The document says the task force, which was established by the executive order, will meet around April 22 to discuss its initial findings.

The cable encourages State Department employees to report on one another through a tip form that can be anonymous. “Reports should be as detailed as possible, including names, dates, locations (e.g. post or domestic office where the incident occurred,” the cable reads.

Some State Department officials reacted to the cable with shock and alarm, saying that even if well-intentioned, it is based on the flawed premise that the department harbors anti-Christian bias to begin with, and warning it could create a culture of fear as the administration pushes employees to report on one another.

“It’s very ‘Handmaid’s Tale'-esque,” said one State Department official, who was granted anonymity because the individual was not allowed to speak openly about internal department affairs. The Interfaith Alliance, a left-leaning NGO on religious freedom, condemned the executive order at the time, arguing that “this effort may appear to address certain forms of stigma against Christians, particularly against Catholics. “The respondents will be notified of this complaint within five business days,” Brown said in the letter.“You will be notified as soon as the Federal Election Commission (FEC) takes final action on your client’s complaint,” she added. “Should you receive any additional information in this matter, please forward it to the Office of the General Counsel.”The complaints reference a 73-year-old Texas resident named Randy Best, who supposedly made 53 separate donations totaling $595 to Crockett’s campaign through ActBlue. However, Sholden Daniels, one of Crockett’s GOP opponents for 2026, promoted a video showing that Best’s wife denied knowing any knowledge about the donations.

The pilot who died with a family of five in a helicopter crash in New York City's Hudson River was a NAVY Seal named Sean Johnson.

On March 27, Johnson posted a video to his Facebook page that shows him piloting a helicopter over lower Manhattan. "When it all comes together," he captioned the Facebook reel, including the captions #tours #charter and #nyc. In the comment thread, he identified the craft as a "Bell 206L4."

Johnson's Facebook profile picture shows him piloting a helicopter, and his cover photo is a picture of Manhattan.

Gothamist identified Johnson as the pilot of the Bell 206 tourist helicopter which crashed and ended up submerged in the Hudson River in New York City on April 10, 2025.

The pilot "radioed about needing to refuel minutes before the helicopter crashed into the chilly waters," Fox News reported, citing the CEO of the company that owned the helicopter, Michael Roth.

Siemens executive Agustin Escobar, his wife, Mercè Camprubí Montal, and their three kids died in the crash, as did the pilot, The Associated Press reported.

On March 6, Johnson posted another photo with a helicopter and wrote, "Windy City boy, in the Big Apple."

According to his Facebook page, he was a helicopter pilot, "veteran, outdoors lover, and lifter of heavy metal."

Johnson's recent Facebook pages included a post about the death of actor Val Kilmer. "Iceman forever," he wrote.

Friends filled up the comment thread under his helicopter video with tributes. "I was telling my buddy about how you became a pilot. Just a couple of weeks back. Rest in peace," one wrote. "Thank you for sharing your journey with us. Fair winds shipmate," another person wrote.
