Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was so upset after her husband, Paul Pelosi, was attacked in their San Francisco home that she had priests come to perform an exorcism on the house, the California Democrat congresswoman's daughter said.

>>"I think that weighed really heavy on her soul. I think she felt really guilty. I think that really broke her. Over Thanksgiving, she had priests coming, trying to have an exorcism of the house and having prayer services," Alexandra Pelosi told The New York Times in an article published Saturday.

David DePape, a 42-year-old illegal immigrant from Canada, pleaded not guilty to federal and state charges after he allegedly attacked Paul Pelosi with a hammer on Oct. 28.

Rep. Pelosi, who was not home at the time of the incident, told the Times that having her home become a "crime scene" was unimaginable.

>>"The fact that they were after me and then they hit him," Pelosi said. "He's a strong person, athletic. This has been tough. It's going to be about three or four more months before he's really back to normal."

>>In a CNN interview scheduled to air Sunday evening, Pelosi said: "I feel very sad about it because of what happened, but also more sad because the person was searching for me. … My dear husband, who is not even that political actually, paid the price."
