House Speaker Nancy Pelosi says it is a long shot for Republicans to win control of the House this November, despite high hopes from President Trump.
In the second and final presidential debate on Thursday, Trump said he believes Republicans will take over the lower chamber come Election Day. But Pelosi isn't buying it.
"You keep thinking that, Mr. President," the California Democrat told CNN's Jake Tapper on Sunday. "You just keep on thinking that. Just another example of delusional statements he made there."
The Democrats won control of the House in the 2018 midterm elections. Pelosi also disclosed on Sunday that she will run for speaker again if Democrats keep control of the House and added that her party must also flip the Senate.
Election forecasters have predicted Democrats have a shot at not only taking control of the Senate but also picking up more House seats. In the Senate, Republicans hold 53 seats, and Democrats have 45 seats. There are also two independents who caucus with the Democrats.
In recent days, big Republican donors have chipped in to try and help the GOP in the final stretch of the election.
With national and swing-state polls also showing Democratic nominee Joe Biden ahead of Trump in voter support, Republicans may also be on the verge of losing the White House.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has long painted some of the closest Senate races as being like a "knife fight in an alley" and has worked to paint a grim picture of a Democratic-led United States in hopes of motivating voters to keep Republicans in power.
"America won’t look, two years later, like it does today," McConnell said.
