Filmmaker and liberal activist Michael Moore issued a warning to white supremacists, saying they better get used to the country growing in its racial and ethnic diversity.
"Your white supremacy thing, you will have to change," Moore told MSNBC host Alex Witt on Sunday. "The country has changed. White people will be the minority in the 2040s, so get used to it. Why not get used to it now? It's going to be good."
Moore touched on his past, adding that he grew up with the kind of extremists who concocted the plot to kidnap Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer earlier this week. Michigan is a critical swing state in the 2020 election, which was narrowly won by Trump in 2016, who broke years of Democratic dominance.
"I’ve known these guys for a long time," Moore said. "When I saw them back in April at the state capitol, I don’t know those guys specifically, but I know those kind of guys. I went to high school with some of them. Their bark sometimes is bigger than their bite. And what they want to do — what the leader of the Michigan militia at that time after Oklahoma City [bombing], what they said was they want to be heard."
Law enforcement arrested seven people associated with Michigan extremist group the Wolverine Watchmen, who were allegedly trying to kidnap the governor. In total, 13 people were arrested in the plot, sparking a national concern over domestic extremism.
Moore suggested that he wished people would go and engage in nonviolent activism instead of trying to harm people, encouraging people to not be afraid to go vote or get involved despite the threat posed by some extremists.
