A black man who said he was on his way to work was recorded getting out of his car and shouting at a group of Black Lives Matter protesters who were blocking a highway near Austin, Texas.
“Hey look, I understand the cause. I appreciate it, but I gotta go to work!” the unidentified man is heard saying in the video from Saturday night.
“I’m black. I gotta go to work! I got bills. I got kids. Get the f— out my way!” he shouted at the protesters, who were reportedly mostly white.
The protesters eventually allowed him through the group but reassembled so other blocked drivers could not continue on the road, according to the New York Post.
Austin was the site of a shooting last weekend when Garrett Foster was fatally shot while attending a Black Lives Matter protest. Foster was seen carrying an AK-47 while pushing his fiancee in a wheelchair last Saturday when he and a driver got into a confrontation, which allegedly prompted the shooting.
Police are investigating the incident, and U.S. Army Sgt. Daniel Perry has come forward as the person who shot Foster. Perry’s lawyer said his client was acting in self-defense and has not been arrested or charged in the death.
