Not necessarily overdramatic. To be an idol is to be in a competitive sector that forces you to compete with others for the affections of a fickle public. To do otherwise is to appear out of touch with your audience or unaware of them, something a competitor will quickly exploit.
That and many creative types tend to be more empathetic/sensitive to their surroundings anyway as this supplies their inspiration/impetus.
Both of these things lead any insult or negative comment re their work to be taken intensely personally by them. Particularly if they are new to this elevated position and had not accumulated the necessary resilience to brush it off.
Said comments could come from a variety of sources:

>Rival who seeks to demotivate her and usurp her position
>Uggo jealous of beauty and success
