A Plano man was arrested Thursday on charges of possession of child pornography and possession with the intent to promote child pornography, according to the Collin County Sheriff's Office.
Investigators had found 18 terabytes of data on devices used to share and view child pornography while executing a search warrant at 38-year-old Christopher Michael Chairez's home, a spokesperson for the sheriff's office said.
An undercover investigation led deputies to Chairez, allegedly identifying him "as an individual utilizing the internet to traffic in child pornography," authorities said.
One terabyte is equal to 1,000 gigabytes. For perspective, an iPhone 11 Pro can hold up to 512 GB.
"The shocking quantity of child pornography seized in this investigation reminds us how important it is for parents to diligently monitor their children's online activities," said Collin County Sheriff Jim Skinner in a written statement.
He warned parents to remain vigilant of any suspicious social media activity.
"Child predators seek to exploit children whose parents don't know, or don't care about, the identities of the individuals who communicate with them over the web," Skinner said.
Chairez had bonded out of the Collin County Detention Facility by Wednesday. His bail had been set at $30,000 total.

The answer is that they found at least one picture. They state how much data they collected, and that he viewed and shared CP, they dont actually say how much CP they collected
This is a fantastic example of how to twist facts to suit your purposes.
If he possessed that much CP would they let him bond out with a bail of $30,000? You dont even have to post the total bail, only around 10%
Most likely he was someone who was downloading a torrent with CP in it, which means he would also be uploading.

Okay, so he had softcore webcam CP. The guy probably had a script set up to automatically parse through livestreaming apps like younow, liveme, periscope, etc and download all the archived streams that were available. This, of course, would amount to a ton of video data that accumulated to 18TB. That doesn't mean it's necessarily 18TB of pornographic material though, because anything that passes the DOST test by itself can be contextualized as CP depending on where it is. For example, it's legal for children to be photographed nude for nudist blogs, educational/research purposes, etc. But if you take those pictures and put them in a folder with images depicting child rape, or repost them to a dark web CP site, then those pictures will be considered child porn. This, along with classifying each video frame as an "image", is why you see all these headlines saying "MAN ARRESTED FOR DOWNLOADING 30,000,000 IMAGES OF CHILD PORN" and "MAN FOUND WITH 50 TERABYTES OF CHILD PORN".
tl;dr The prosecution is obfuscating the truth so they can nail this guy to the wall in court, and the judge/jury/media either don't realize this or they don't care.
