Pier 1 filed for bankruptcy Monday after reaching an agreement with lenders and will pursue sale of the company.

The Fort Worth, Texas, company has reached a plan with lenders to provide it $256 million and commenced Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings and pursue of sale, which it hopes will help stakeholders, a statement said.

Pier 1 also said the plan will help it complete the closure of up to 450 stores previously announced amid slumping sales among its more than 900 stores, including all its stores in Canada.

To date, the company has closed or initiated going-out-of-business sales at over 400 locations and is in the process of closing two distribution centers to reflect its smaller footprint, the company statement said.

The man who is accused of deliberately driving his van into a tent where voters were being registered by local Republicans told the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office his disapproval of President Donald Trump was a motivating factor, according to an unredacted arrest report obtained by News4Jax.

Gregory Timm, 27, was arrested hours after police said his van plowed through the tent, narrowly missing volunteers who were set up the parking lot of a Walmart Superstore at the corner of Atlantic and Kernan boulevards about 3:50 p.m. on Saturday. He’s accused of two counts of aggravated assault on a person over 65 years old, criminal mischief and driving without a license.

According to JSO investigators who tracked him down, Timm admitted to purposefully driving into the tent because “someone had to take a stand.”

Timm told investigators he saw the registration tent after he went to pick up food and cigarettes at Walmart, according to JSO.

He then showed investigators a video he recorded while driving towards the tent, according to JSO, but the video cut out before he hit the tent. According to the report, Timm said he was upset that the video ended before “the good part.”

Yeah, they vilified the guy who drove through an angry mob that was banging on his car and were threatening him, that he even told multiple times to move, but gloss over a deliberate attack. What a sorry mess we've put ourselves in, and yet many other western countries are even worse somehow, despite their attempts to hide the truth.

A Forest Grove woman says the United States deserted her and her husband by not taking them home while evacuating hundreds of other Americans from a cruise ship quarantined in Japan with a major coronavirus outbreak.

“All right people,” Rebecca Frasure wrote Monday in an email to the U.S. Embassy in Japan. “Enough is enough! I know you evacuated most Americans last night, but you ABANDONED the rest of us here with nowhere to go!”

Frasure, 35, was on the ship Diamond Princess when she tested positive for the coronavirus, Covid-19. The disease has killed more than 1,000 people and has infected tens of thousands more, mostly in China.

Since the diagnosis, Frasure has been at a Tokyo hospital while her husband, Kent, has remained on the ship.

The U.S. government offered to fly Americans on the Diamond Princess to military bases for further quarantine, but Rebecca Frasure said the embassy in Tokyo told her in an email that she couldn’t be one of them because she was sick. Kent Frasure decided to stay with the rest of the people left on the ship to be near his wife.

Then, she found out that 14 coronavirus-infected Americans were among those evacuated, even though only healthy people were supposed to leave. The sick passengers were allowed to board planes back to the U.S. because they had no symptoms, the U.S. State Department said. They were kept isolated on the flight.

All of the passengers are now going through a 14-day quarantine at Travis Air Force Base in California and Lackland Air Force base in Texas.

Rebecca Frasure, meanwhile, will be at the hospital until at least Friday, she said. That’s because she needs to have two back-to-back negative tests for coronavirus, and those are scheduled for the end of the week.

A Portland man died after he fell while snowboarding at Mt. Hood Meadows over the weekend, a spokesman for the resort said Monday.

The Hood River County Sheriff’s Office said the man was 45-year-old Ryan Zeitner of Portland. He fell while snowboarding in the Heather Canyon area of the resort on Sunday morning, said Dave Tragethon, a spokesman for Mt. Hood Meadows.

The Sheriff’s Office said they responded around 11:17 a.m. Sunday to reports of a death at Mt. Hood Meadows, and medics had already responded to a snowboarding fall. Zeitner died at the scene.

A medical examiner is investigating Zeitner’s cause of death.

With the Nevada caucuses less than a week away, Democratic presidential candidates campaigning Sunday were fixated on a rival who wasn’t contesting the state.

Bernie Sanders, Joe Biden and Amy Klobuchar all targeted billionaire Mike Bloomberg, accusing him of buying his way into the election and making clear they were eager to take him on in a debate.

“He thinks he can buy this election,” Sanders said of the former New York mayor at a rally in Reno. “Well, I’ve got news for Mr. Bloomberg — the American people are sick and tired of billionaires buying elections!”

Their attacks are a sign of how seriously the field is starting to take Bloomberg as he gains traction in the race and is on the cusp of qualifying for Wednesday’s Democratic debate in Las Vegas. Bloomberg has bypassed the traditional early voting states including Nevada, focusing instead on the 14 states that vote in the Super Tuesday primary on March 3. He has spent more than $417 million of his own multibillion-dollar fortune on advertising nationwide, an unprecedented sum for any candidate in a primary.

Meanwhile, Biden picked up another endorsement from a top Nevada politician, with Lt. Gov. Kat Marshall announcing that she will back the former vice president’s White House bid. Marshall joins two of the state’s four U.S. House members, Reps. Dina Titus and Steven Horsford, in backing Biden.

The focus on Bloomberg comes amid anxiety among many establishment-aligned Democrats over the early strength of Sanders, who won last week’s New Hampshire primary and essentially tied for first place in Iowa with Pete Buttigieg, the former mayor of South Bend, Indiana. Sanders is hoping to notch a victory in Nevada on Saturday as moderates struggle to unite behind a candidate who could serve as a counter to the Vermont senator, who has long identified as a democratic socialist.

The hundreds of millions of dollars that Bloomberg has pumped into the Super Tuesday states has only heightened the sense of uncertainty surrounding the Democratic race.

President Trump is set to deliver the “start your engines” command at the Daytona 500 on Sunday. Though, the crowd in attendance isn’t waiting for the start of the race to start getting loud.

Air Force 1 made it’s dramatic flyover and landing at Daytona, to the trill of thousands who immediately began cheering loudly.

Loud chants of “U.S.A. U.S.A.!” could be heard as the president’s plane flew overhead.

“Trump will bask in the appreciation of thousands of NASCAR fans, becoming the second president to attend the Daytona 500 after President George W. Bush, who also appeared at the race during his reelection year,” the Associated Press reports.

“Trump’s reelection campaign will run a TV ad during the Fox broadcast of the race and fly an aerial banner near the speedway. About 100,000 people are expected to attend this year’s race and millions more will watch on television. About 9 million people took in last year’s race on television.

“Trump tweeted Sunday morning: “Getting ready to go to the Daytona 500. Will be GREAT!”’

The president has made appearances at the World Series, college football national championships, and a UFC fight.

There is almost no physical evidence connecting New York real estate heir Robert Durst to the slaying of his best friend in Los Angeles 20 years ago.

What does link him to the killing of Susan Berman, though, is a cryptic note sent to police with her address and one word: “CADAVER.”

The slip of paper intended to lead authorities to her lifeless body in December 2000 was penned by Durst. His lawyers have admitted as much. Durst himself has said more than once that only the killer or someone involved in the shooting could have written it.

Prosecutors intend to use the note and a web of circumstantial evidence to put Durst behind bars for three killings he’s suspected of committing over nearly four decades. They will be up against a legal team that won Durst’s acquittal in one of those deaths.

“Our defense is, one, he didn’t do it, and, two, they can’t prove beyond a reasonable doubt that he did it,” defense lawyer David Chesnoff said. “It is a highly circumstantial case and we will have strong responses to explain the circumstances.”

Jury selection begins Wednesday in a case built around a story so sensational it inspired a feature film starring Ryan Gosling as Durst and a six-part documentary on his life that helped lead to his arrest.

The Trump campaign fired back Monday after former President Barack Obama, in a subtle swipe at President Trump, claimed credit for the economic gains in both their terms.

Obama tweeted Monday morning to note the anniversary of his signing the 2009 economic stimulus package.

“Eleven years ago today, near the bottom of the worst recession in generations, I signed the Recovery Act, paving the way for more than a decade of economic growth and the longest streak of job creation in American history,” Obama tweeted, alongside a photo of his signature on the bill.

But the Trump campaign, in a statement to Fox News, countered that the economy is only recovering because of the actions Trump took to undo his predecessor's policies.

“President Trump reversed every single failed Obama-era economic policy, and with it, reversed the floundering Obama/Biden economy,” Trump campaign national press secretary Kayleigh McEnany said. “Obama and Biden orchestrated the worst economic recovery in modern history.”

She added: “By contrast, though, deregulating, lowering taxes, and supporting free-market policies, President Trump has created the hottest economy on record, with unemployment hitting generational lows and all-time lows for African Americans, Hispanics, the disabled, veterans and many other hard-working Americans.”

“Paychecks are growing at the fastest pace in a decade and twice as fast for low- and middle-income Americans,” she continued. “It’s no wonder Democrats seek to take credit for the Trump economy after eight years of betraying blue-collar workers and inflicting pain upon the middle class as Americans everywhere suffered. But the failed days of Democrat stagnation are over, and the soaring Trump economy is here to stay.”

Obama and his allies have long touted the impact of the $787 billion economic stimulus package, also known as the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. The measure was passed and signed in February 2009 — about 14 months after the recession began in December 2007 and about eight months before the nPost too long. Click here to view the full text.

A St. Augustine man is accused of burglarizing a multi-million dollar penthouse owned by the father of pop star Taylor Swift.

According to a report from the Tampa Bay Times, Terrence Hoover of St. Augustine got past security at Vinoy Place Condos in St. Petersburg last month before entering the $4 million condo owned by Scott Swift.

Hoover got into the top-floor penthouse by entering the emergency stairwell and climbing 13 flights of stairs, according to an arrest affidavit obtained by News4Jax.

Surveillance video shows Hoover coming out of the stairwell and into the penthouse just before 10 p.m. on Jan. 17.

Shortly after Hoover got inside, Scott Swift arrived home and a struggle ensued. Hoover eventually ran off, court records show.

An off-duty NYPD detective committed suicide at his mother’s Queens home on Monday, law enforcement sources said.

Second-grade Detective Paul Federico, 53, hanged himself at the 79th Street house in Middle Village around 12:25 p.m., sources said.

Federico, who worked in the department’s liaison unit and had many years on the job, was pronounced dead at the scene.

“His wife was in front screaming,” said area resident Mario Kustera, 53. “She was saying, ‘Why did my husband do this?’”

Sources said Federico recently was placed on restricted duty and had his guns taken away from him — though it was not clear why.

Federico, whose suicide is the first in the department of 2020, did not leave behind a note, according to sources.

The cop had two adult children and a brother, Anthony — an officer with the Rockville Centre Police Department on Long Island, sources said.

Democratic presidential primary frontrunners have escalated attacks against former New York City Mayor Mike Bloomberg ahead of Saturday’s Nevada caucus, and those in President Donald Trump’s orbit predict this “civil war” will help to re-elect the president in November.

Independent Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders and Democratic Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar both directly accused Bloomberg of trying to “buy the election” during appearances over the weekend.

“I’ve got news for Mr. Bloomberg,” Sanders told a crowd in Carson City, Nevada on Sunday. “The American people are sick and tired of billionaires buying the elections.”

Sanders also claimed that despite “all his money,” Bloomberg will not create the kind of excitement and energy we need” to win the White House in 2020. Throughout the election cycle, Sanders has repeatedly confirmed his intent to instill a revolutionary wealth tax on millionaires and billionaires. He told CNN’s Erin Burnett back during the October primary debate that he wants to “tax billionaires out of existence.”

Similarly, Klobuchar said on CBS’ “Face the Nation” Sunday that Bloomberg, “cannot hide behind the airwaves and the money.”

A Kaiser Permanente neurosurgeon removed a healthy part of a patient’s brain instead of a tumor, causing permanent brain damage that left the man unable to read or write, according to a lawsuit filed Friday in Multnomah County Circuit Court.

Dane Brandon Zimmer, 46, is seeking $25 million. The lawsuit, filed on Zimmer’s behalf by a conservator, alleges that a 2018 surgery at Kaiser Sunnyside Hospital left Zimmer with permanent brain damage. Kaiser Permanente didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.

Zimmer, then 44, went to the emergency room at Kaiser Permanente Sunnyside Medical Center in February 2018, suffering from headaches, confusion and agitation, the lawsuit says. A CT scan found a large mass in his brain and a neurosurgeon, Charles Wrobel, diagnosed it as a hemangioblastoma, the suit says.

The slow-growing, benign tumor was causing an obstruction in Zimmer’s brain, the suit says, leading to a decision to perform surgery to remove it.

After his morning surgery, Zimmer couldn’t communicate with recovery nurses, who described his speech as “word salad,” the lawsuit says.

Another CT scan showed the surgery had been performed in the wrong location and the mass was still present, the lawsuit says. No trace of the tumor was found in pathology testing of the tissue that had been removed, Zimmer’s suit says.

The tissue had come from a part of Zimmer’s cerebrum that helps with language development instead of from his cerebellum, his lawsuit alleges.

Wrobel performed another surgery on Zimmer that evening, with the assistance of another doctor, the suit says, successfully removing the mass.

Zimmer, who had suffered a brain injury at 19, had been able to care for himself and live independently before the surgeries, hisPost too long. Click here to view the full text.

>tumors are bad

Lol, it's about conflict.

Someone says 'this smells bad I might get sick' and eventually people in the area develop runny nose, why? It's due the brainS being aware there 'is' a threat even when it's harmful or hearsay spread out by fearsay.

"Wow this cruise ship we're trapped and doomed and for sure no one will help us in this deadly pandemic and its been weeks and we're hungry" and why they tested positive more than a country? I smell fear as culprit, when AIR becomes a DEADLY threat, the lungs is sent and filled with mycobacteria and fungi to help fix its alleged damage and again fear sinks in second time around and you think of it as SYMPTOMS to something deadly when it is indeed just the reaction to fearsay and your body end up sending more, kidneys shut because body thinks it is bodily infection now when it was a BUG that you destroyed yourself by having bacterial imbalance enough that it goes into the system/bloodstream causing kidneys to also fail with it. FEAR. The DNA of the virus is actually of your own, and it is your body trying to fix a deadly threat that's nonexistent, eventually you become it.

Think of it as a very primitive way of life forms, you are a small bacteria and you think X is a threat, then all your fellow bacteria follows your decision out of consensus and so you all avoid the threat to survive. It is shared CONSCIENCE

or EMERGENT BEHAVIOR that happens when there is a group of similar living things, they end up doing something "according to" someone.

When your crush says 'your face is shit' or you say to yourself that you are ugly then your body will send microbes to purge the foreign agent on your face and when it's nonexistent due to misinterpretation you get pneumo/coccus build up and eventually acne/pimples. This is emergent behavior influenced by INFO. And it spreads not through air but through the CONSCIOUSNESS link.

Viruses are like this, and it's just usually bad or self diagnosis turning into reality "air is bad" then your body tries to fix the lungs voluntarily and your body sends fungus oPost too long. Click here to view the full text.

WASHINGTON — The Pentagon is requesting about as much money for overseas operations in the coming fiscal year as in this one, but there is at least one noteworthy new twist: the first-ever Space Force request for war funds.

Officials say the $77 million request is needed by Oct. 1 not for space warfare but to enable military personnel to keep operating and protecting key satellites.

Maj. Gen. John Pletcher, a top budget official in the Air Force, under which the nascent Space Force falls, told reporters this week the money is needed to pay for three missions.

One is counter-space operations, which means systems and tactics for defending satellites from adversary efforts to disable them. The second is satellite communications in support of military operations abroad. The third is operating and maintaining missile-warning satellites like the ones that reportedly detected an Iranian missile attack last month on bases where U.S. troops were deployed in Iraq.

The $77 million request in “overseas contingency operations” money is a small part of the $740.5 billion national defense budget request for fiscal 2021 and is tucked away in the $15.4 billion piece of it slated for Space Force, almost all of which previously went to the Air Force.

The funding illustrates key facts about the defense budget and modern warfare.

First, the $77 million Space Force war money would be for what Pentagon officials call “enduring requirements,” which signifies activities happening either overseas or in the United States that would likely occur whether or not U.S. troops were deployed to Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria or any of several African countries.

>All told, 70% of the Pentagon’s fiscal 2021 war request of $69 billion is either not for war at all or it is for activities only tangentially relatPost too long. Click here to view the full text.

Venezuela's armed forces and civilian militias took the streets in cities, beaches and border regions on Saturday for drills ordered by President Nicolás Maduro, amid tensions between Washington and Caracas.

Despite the maneuvers, there are no indications that the U.S. plans any military intervention in Venezuela. Washington has focused on political and diplomatic pressure in its efforts to oust Maduro, only saying last year that it had not ruled out a military option.

Maduro called for the exercises as he comes under pressure from the U.S. and dozens of other nations backing a year-long campaign by opposition leader Juan Guaidó to force the leader from power.

Residents in a pro-Maduro slum in Caracas participated in the exercises. They included a growing number of civilian militia members recruited by a cash-starved government that is struggling to keep Venezuela's shattered economy afloat.

“I answered the call to help prepare for our defense because my country, my homeland, is under threat from the U.S. empire,” said militia member Pablo Antonio Reyes, a 63-year-old electronics technician.

Militiamen and government supporters dressed in red shirts held combat drills on streets blocked off by city buses. They evacuated residents from buildings as tires burned on rooftops to simulate fires from attacks.

"The purpose of this exercise is to keep us prepared," said militia member Carmen Ferrer, 50.

Maduro said that the two-day maneuvers were aimed at fending off “terrorist aggression” by Washington and its allies in the region including neighboring Colombia.

The Venezuelan military, which has received Russian support, deployed missile launchers, anti-aircraft batteries and radars in the streets. The government seeks to boost militia ranks, filled out by the old and young, housewives and students.

More than likely they're being paid to say it with extra food rations, or under duress.

One man was arrested and another hospitalized after a knife fight in Southeast Portland, police said Sunday.

Officers were dispatched to a report of a disturbance in the 5300 block of Southeast 136th Avenue at 11:07 a.m. Sunday, police said.

According to a news release, police were told that there could a knife or gun involved in the unfolding incident.

Officers who arrived on the scene first found two men physically fighting in a stairwell, police said. Those officers intervened and stopped the fighting, they said.

The wounded man is expected to survive his injuries. He was treated at the scene by paramedics and transported to a hospital, according to the release. The other man was detained by officers. Police did not identify either man.

Police said the investigation is ongoing and a knife was seized as evidence. It is unclear, they said, if there ever was a gun involved.
