I do wish their was some provision from residents starting with their weapons and sub-weapons being the same type- IE both martial arts or magic or whatever. The Old-master version is almost unplayable for me. It run out of memory, while the new version runs perfectly fine.

I'm not exactly sure how much is new but there are definitely a fair amount of new features from the JP side too. (Beside now that the interface is mostly done on the new version, both require about the same amount of MTLing).

Speaking of eraMegaten, I was frustrated by how long the training took compared to the RPG part (at least without getting them at 4k stamina/will through MAG enhancement) and apparently the "easy" training difficulty is a lie and only affect the prices at which you sell slaves.

It doesn't cost much in the way of experience to change weapon types as long as you do it early, and the advantages feel pretty minimal. I haven't tried to see what they are numerically, though. There's a note in the game that mentions three specific enemies and three types of weapon that are good for them, but the combat's so shallow that I don't feel like it matters all that much. The only real reason to even balance main and sub weapons is because you can't pick the one to use. It's not unworkably broken as a system, it's just sorta shallow.

Although each of the games is different, Desire is pretty much always how much the character desires sex or how positively they'll respond to sex actions. Mechanically, in the trainer-type games I think it mostly gets used for making responses during sex training more positive, but it's also a requirement for other abilities even in TW. A brief look at some of TW's code seems to back me up, so I feel safe saying that you can in general think of it as how much the character wants and enjoys sex. I don't know if it plays into push-down chances but it wouldn't surprise me.

Funny enough, there's a JUEL/PALAM named Desire, too, which I'd tend to avoid but probably wouldn't actually be a source of confusion. Further, the ABL_TR in my old-ass version of TW seems like it might even call Desire by the name Lust, although in-game it shows as Desire. Looks like TW probably had a lot of palam/juel/whatever names hardcoded, which probably explains that. TW is weird.

Now, I have a question. TW's JUEL_TR and PALAM_TR both have a line "欲情,Desire" When I have duplicated lines between files, Anchor shits itself with an error even if the lines are identical. Do JUEL and PALAM have special handling because they're basically the same thing, or is this some version thing with Anchor, or what? I'd like to be able to have duplicated entires in ITEM_TR and TRAIN_TR (Lotion and such) without Anchor complaining about it.

Emuera interpret the CSV TR files such as a dictionary. If you have duplicated entries it doesn't know which one to use to translate the first column (before the comma) regardless of what is on the second column.

If you want to have different translations depending on where each thing appears, you'd have to go where that thing is being printed in the ERB files and changing it yourself, maybe through a function.

We use some functions like that, usually called TALENT_TR, TALENTNAME_TR, or simlar. If you search for them or inside the ERB/Translation folder you'll probably find something like that. If not in TW, in other translated games.

Sorry, that wasn't what I was asking, but the point seems to be moot anyhow. I had thought that I had, in the past, seen errors on startup if two different _TR files had entries for the same Japanese phrases, regardless of what the actual translation was. Even if it was the same, I couldn't just leave the duplicate in because Anchor'd throw errors and not start. I'd need to go comment out the duplicated entries. But that's apparently wrong, since I can't even force the errors to appear if I do this deliberately now. That being the case, I can't figure out what the problem was that I was having before. Maybe the problem was duplicates within a single _TR file, although I can't think of a game where that would've happened.

As a matter of fact, I have right now a game that translates ローター, for instance, as one thing in the training menu and another thing in the item menu strictly using two _TR files and, in the game, %TRAINNAME:X% and %ITEMNAME:X%. That's pretty much the opposite of how I remember things working and how it's been described to me. It's days like this that I start to feel old and, worse, stupid.

What you last described is pretty much how it actually works. The engine has no idea that the ITEM is related to the TRAIN command.

What you might be remembering is the ALL_TR.csv file depicted here: https://gitgud.io/era-games/EmuEra/-/blob/emuera/eng-anchor/readme_Translation.txt

If you set a text pair on ALL_TR it will translate anywhere it appears.

Nah, that was probably just the translator taking a liberty, sneaking in a reference, or screwing up. Guess it could've been the devs doing it, if that was really what the Japanese said–I forget. There's no other connections to that series that I can identify. If there's any theme, it's Lovecraft, considering that many of the monsters and at least one of the races is directly from his work. Even then it's a pretty loose connection considering that lots of games have references to his stuff–not as many as AS, I mean, but mi-go and yith show up in roguelikes and whatever. The post-apocalyptic stuff isn't Lovecraft at all, really. If it's based off some obscure series, it'd be interesting to know about it.

The only problems with developing natively in English are that the command reference wiki is in Japanese, and that eramaker's not really extremely robust as a development platform, and so some folks say it's better to just go ahead and develop a clone of, say, K in a different environment or language. Of course, there's also the fact that since you'd be starting with K as a basis you have to deal with all the Japanese that's already in that game.

Deleting or commenting out the CALL DEBUG_CHECK line should do it. It wouldn't surprise me too much if there were other land mines, though, since guys perverse enough to bury one might well bury more. However, a very brief look around suggests that other times characters are lost is due to actual gameplay. I don't play MaouEX much, though, so I could very well be wrong.

About eraMegaten translation. In the characters status, the skills for some human characters (at least for Adepts, probably for some others too) are untranslated (while the same skills are translated in demons). Also in general the "next skill learned" is untranslated.

I understand that the translators will work on what they feel like, but since that's a basic interface issue, I feel it's important and maybe they just haven't noticed it.
